Shakuntala Marndi, a textile designer from the Simlipal forests of Odisha, will deliver a 30-minute online presentation on the indigenous wisdom of her Santhal community and the rich natural resources they utilize. In this talk, Marndi will highlight the traditional knowledge passed down through generations, focusing on the sustainable use of natural fibers, dyes, and materials sourced from the surrounding environment. She will discuss the various plants and natural elements used in Santhal textile practices, showcasing how they are transformed into beautiful, eco-friendly textiles. Marndi will emphasize the importance of preserving these traditional methods, which not only celebrate cultural heritage but also promote sustainability.
