Sofiyum

SOFIYUM was born out of individual ideas as the members performed individually before crossing paths with each other. Every member had loved music since their childhood days, so once they started performing together, they decided to take forward the Lepcha culture and music as at that time there was not much Lepcha music present. Initially, there were more members in the band but due to various reasons, they had to part ways. When members join the group they become a family and they try to take the band forward together. Soon the band started getting platforms to perform more gigs. Band Member: Mickma Tshering Lepcha – Vocals, Tungbuk, and Puntong Polit. Hailing from a small village in West Sikkim, Mickma Tshering had a tough childhood but found joy in listening to his sister sing old folk songs. This sparked his interest in music, and he grew up performing songs of various genres. Ongyal Tshering Lepcha – Vocals, Sutsang, and Guitars. Ongyal began composing songs in Nepali during his school days, inspired by Nepali pop and his elder brother. He brings his individual compositions to the band, where they are collaboratively refined. Rikel Lepcha – Guitar. Inspired by his grandfather who played folk instruments, Rikel chose to express his musical talent through the guitar, which he loves playing. Anand – Anand started as a sportsman but later developed an interest in music. After leaving an office job he disliked, he joined many famous bands in Sikkim and developed a fondness for metal music. Anand has been with Sofiyum for four years, guiding the members with his experience. Noel J. Karthak – Bass Guitars. Rathap Lepcha – Tungdarbong and Drums. Pintsok Dechen Lepcha – Percussions.
