Saheb Ram Tudu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Plastic Arts (Sculpture) at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. An accomplished artist, sculptor, illustrator, and filmmaker, he also serves as a guest faculty member at the National Institute of Design and other institutions. Tudu specialises in mixed media sculpture and completed his postgraduate studies in Sculpture from BHU and a Master’s in Animation Film Design from NID, Ahmedabad. He has experience as a senior visual designer in the IT industry. Tutu’s deep interest in folk art and wood carving has led him to participate in workshops by the Museum of Santal Culture in Bishnubati, Birbhum.
Project/Enterprise
His works have been exhibited at the Oslo Museum in Norway and the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in London. He focuses on traditional carvings of Santal Banam instruments and doors, aiming to preserve indigenous traditions. As a filmmaker, he has created numerous short animations and won four national and two international awards between 2010 and 2012. Tudu is also a published poet, exploring themes of human intellect and spiritual metamorphosis. His art captures the mysticism and spirituality of Kashi, reflecting the interplay of life and death.
