Project/Enterprise
The Legacy from Beyond
Set in the hills of Patangarh Village, Madhya Pradesh, “The Legacy from Beyond” shows the journey of renowned Pardhan Gond tribal artist Late Shri Jangarh Singh Shyam and how his artistic legacy continues to thrive in the village. Gond art is a style of vibrant colours and patterns which tells stories of culture and tradition of India. The documentary showcases the inseparable bond between Banwali and Rajumari, two indigenous artists who not only create art together but also face the difficulties of finding regular employment by taking on odd jobs like farming and labour work due to the low demand for paintings. They are deeply devoted to their families, the community, and the natural world. The film illuminates the lives of Gond tribal painters by illustrating their trials and struggles via their compelling stories, unveiling the richness and beautifully portraying the Indian culture and artistic tradition.
