Mukesh Baiga, a Green Hub Fellow from the 2021-22 cohort, will present a 30-minute online session featuring his film Bori Mein Lagai, Hazaron Kamai (Planted in Grow-Bags, Earning in Thousands). The film focuses on an innovative agricultural initiative aimed at enhancing the income of local communities through the Jawahar Badi model. This model involves planting seeds or saplings in grow-bags instead of directly in the ground, a technique particularly beneficial in areas where water is scarce and soil nutrients are limited.
In his presentation, Baiga will discuss the development and implementation of this method, showcasing its effectiveness in optimizing plant growth under challenging conditions. He will explain how the Jawahar Badi model supports sustainable agriculture and provides a viable source of income for communities, helping them overcome environmental constraints. The session will highlight the practical aspects of the technique, its adoption by local farmers, and its broader impact on food security and economic stability in the region. The presentation will conclude with a Q&A, offering the audience an opportunity to learn more about the innovative agricultural practices and the potential for scaling this model in other regions facing similar challenges.
The film is made under the Green Hub Central India (GHCI) fellowship, a project of Dusty Foot Foundation and Mahashakti Seva Kendra (MSK), that looks at empowering youth in environment conservation, sustainable agriculture, and livelihood through the digital medium. GHCI is supported by Bharat Rural Livelihood Fund (BRLF)
