Green Hub Fellow Sanjay Singh will present a screening and discussion of his film Jal Sanrakshan Se Vikas Ki Or (Towards Progress with Water Conservation). The film chronicles a watershed management project aimed at alleviating severe water scarcity in the villages of Khera, Kota, Dadri, and Lurghuti. With no reliable water sources, these communities faced daily hardships and significant agricultural losses. The project, initiated by an NGO, involved close collaboration with local residents to implement comprehensive water conservation strategies.
The film details the construction of check dams, contour trenches, and farm ponds designed to capture rainwater and recharge groundwater, addressing the immediate water crisis. In addition to the physical infrastructure, the NGO organized awareness programs on water conservation and provided support in livelihood management, helping the community adapt to sustainable practices. Through effective implementation of these techniques, the project successfully revived local water sources, mitigated water scarcity, and improved the socio-economic conditions of the villagers.
The screening will be followed by a talk and Q&A session, where Sanjay Singh will discuss the project’s development, the challenges encountered, and the transformative impact of the watershed management initiative. The session will also explore the broader implications of sustainable water management practices in rural development and community resilience.
The film is made under the Green Hub Central India (GHCI) fellowship, a project of Dusty Foot Foundation and Mahashakti Seva Kendra (MSK), that looks at empowering youth in environment conservation, sustainable agriculture and livelihood through the digital medium. GHCI is supported by Bharat Rural Livelihood Fund (BRLF)
