Rohan Shivkumar

Rohan Shivkumar is an architect, urban designer, and filmmaker based in Mumbai. He is the Dean of Architecture at the Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture and Environmental Studies (KRVIA). As the principal of the architectural and urban practice Collaborative Design Studio and a member of CRIT, an urban research collective in Mumbai, Rohan’s work spans architecture, urban research, consultancy projects, film, and visual art. He has a keen interest in housing, public space, and innovative ways of reading and representing the city.

Warli cultural leader Manisha Dhinde and architect Rohan Shivkumar will present a 30-minute talk on their project to map the Aarey Forest. They will discuss the collaboration with experts to understand the relationship between the Warli community and the forest ecosystem. The presentation will cover the methods used for cultural and ecological mapping, highlighting the unique symbiosis between traditional practices and the environment. Dhinde and Shivkumar will showcase an immersive AR/VR experience of the project. The session will conclude with a 30-minute Q&A, discussing the integration of technology with cultural preservation and documenting indigenous knowledge systems.
