Karry Padu, a talented media and film professional, will present a 30-minute online talk titled “Exploring the Galo Community through The Vivid Project and I AM PROPERTY.” In this session, Padu will discuss her creative endeavors that illuminate the rich cultural tapestry of the Galo community. She will showcase The Vivid Project, a collection of poems that capture the essence of Galo life, traditions, and perspectives. Padu will explain how this literary work serves as a medium to express the community’s collective experiences and emotions. Additionally, Padu will introduce her film I AM PROPERTY, which delves into the complex socio-cultural issues faced by the Galo people. She will share insights into the making of the film, its narrative focus, and the challenges encountered in bringing this important story to the screen. The presentation will offer a glimpse into the artistic and narrative strategies Padu employs to give voice to the Galo community. The Galo, a tribe from Arunachal Pradesh, are traditionally animistic, considering nature to be the ultimate power. Descendants of Abotani, they speak the Tani Galo language and have maintained their indigenous beliefs and practices for generations. The Galos have a rich culture of traditional folk dances and songs, primarily celebrating harvest and prosperity. As an agrarian community, their festivities focus on preserving and conserving their lands and nature. Mopin, their annual harvesting festival, is celebrated in April and embodies their close connection to the land.
