Green Hub Fellows Ravindra Kumar Kanav, Rohit Sarvare, Mahima Maravi, and Ajay Bhuria from the 2021-22 cohort will present a screening and discussion of their film Jan Gan Van (People, Community, Forest). The film tells the inspiring story of forest restoration through community participation in East Singhbhum, Jharkhand. It focuses on the impact of heavy logging from 1980 to 1986, which severely affected the livelihoods of indigenous communities in the area. The narrative explores how the collective action of these communities, facilitated by the Paryavaran Chetna Kendra, has led to the successful revival of the forest.

Through compelling visuals and interviews, the film highlights the grassroots initiatives undertaken to protect and restore the forest, showcasing the vital role of local knowledge and communal efforts in conservation. The screening will be followed by a talk and Q&A session, where the fellows will discuss the making of the film, the challenges faced in mobilizing the community, and the positive outcomes of their restoration efforts. The session will also delve into the broader significance of community-led environmental stewardship and the importance of sustainable practices in safeguarding natural resources for future generations.

The film is made under the Green Hub Central India (GHCI) fellowship, a project of Dusty Foot Foundation and Mahashakti Seva Kendra (MSK), that looks at empowering youth in environment conservation, sustainable agriculture and livelihood through the digital medium. GHCI is supported by Bharat Rural Livelihood Fund (BRLF)
