In this talk, Rio will explore how ambition is perceived and manifested among the Konyak people, highlighting the cultural nuances and values that shape this concept. He will share how his personal understanding of ambition drives him to create films that resonate with his community’s experiences and aspirations. Rio will discuss how he depicts ambition in his films, using storytelling to convey the challenges, dreams, and resilience of the people in his region. Through clips and insights into his filmmaking process, Rio will illustrate how his work not only reflects the collective ambitions of his community but also serves as a means to inspire and provoke thought. The presentation will conclude with a 30-minute Q&A, allowing the audience to engage with Rio on the themes of ambition, cultural identity, and the role of filmmaking in documenting and shaping societal attitudes.

Ancestors believed that a hole in the forest near Noklak Village was a passage for spirits to another world. The tribe uses 76 plant species from 48 families and 68 genera as medicinal plants, utilizing parts like leaves, barks, seeds, flowers, and shoots to treat various ailments.
